Lower Back Pain Explained
The majority of lower back pain is mechanical in nature, which means that there is stress or pressure on the bones, discs, or nerves in the spine. It can also be chemical pain. This is the body’s chemical response to injury, and it usually looks like an inflammatory response.
When we look at lower back pain, we have to look at the specific problem area. The lower back region is known as the lumbar spine, and it is comprised of five vertebrae that help protect this portion of the spine. These vertebrae are each separated by discs, which act as shock absorbers. These intervertebral discs provide critical cushion to the bones in the spine, and they are key to evenly distributing weight.
In between each of the vertebrae, you’ll find foramen, which are holes that let nerves travel throughout the body to muscles and organs. Anytime there is a misalignment in this delicate part of the body, it can lead to nerve problems and pain.
How Can a Chiropractor Help?
Lifestyle & Ergonomics Assessment
We take a deeper look at the root of the problem by talking about your lifestyle and day-to-day ergonomics. For example, this might include looking at the support of your office chair and how we can improve it. It could also mean that we need to suggest a different mattress or pillow for more support while you sleep.
